I tossed and turned all night unable to
sleep. The others it seemed slept well. I realized this because for the first
time Renisotta was completely silent. Everybody was asleep even the
nocturnal animals were sleeping. This unnerving
silence and the fact that robots were patrolling the roads to make sure that
nobody got out of their house made it very difficult to sleep. It was only when it became 4;00 am that I
finally slept. The next morning I was woken up by my alarm at 8:00 am. The
first thing I heard was my mom singing along with the radio, I was relieved to see that at least
something hadn’t changed. With renewed
spirits, I got ready and raced down the steps. My mom on seeing me said “ Your
breakfast will be ready soon.” “Okay.” I answered. As she prepared my breakfast,
I gazed at her and took in her long black hair. Me and my mom looked like
sisters,at least that’s what everybody said and I had to admit that we had many
similarities. I had inherited her long black hair and blue eyes, but my mom was
short and I was tall like my dad. As these thoughts ran through my mind my mom asked
“ Dorothy did you clean your room yesterday?” “Yes mom.” I answered “ Good, now
eat your pea soup.” As soon as I heard
the word pea soup my face took on an ugly expression and I said “ Pea soup! Mom why did you make pea soup?” She said “ Don’t shout at me. If I could
I would never make pea soup, but sadly I can’t do anything. The Government
makes the food schedule and we common people have to follow it.” “ But
the government has no power to control what we eat.” I said “ That would
have been true if we had been ruled by our own people,but now we are ruled by
the sous aliens.” Explained my mom “I have been telling you this from a long
time and you always listened. I don’t whats gotten into you today, now eat up,
we need to go to military school.” Said my mom“Military school?” I asked “ Yes military school. Every kid who becomes 14
has to attand and serve in the army for
minimum 14 yrs.” Said my mom, “But mom
it’s the summer vacation. “ I said “ Now
you won’t get any summer vacations. You are an adult now kiddo. “ said mom
I was shocked. Everything had changed! 14 yr olds were adults and had to serve in the
army,The government set food schedules and made your timetable and the worst part
,you cannot make friends until you are 60 years old! Life was hell.
